They Say It's Your Birthday...

Well, as of Tuesday I am officially 22 years old. It's a bit weird to think about that. I know that in the grand scheme of things, 22 is still super young, but when I was younger, I saw it as the year I would become a real adult because I always associated it with The End of College.

When I was nine years old, 22 seemed ancient. I remember one day when I was in 4th grade, all of the girls at my lunch table were saying how old they wanted to be when they got married (because, y'know, that's what nine year old girls do around the lunch table, apparently).

Multiple girls said 22 because they thought that was "soooo old." Like, in our minds 22 was the new 40. Not kidding. Some of my friends are engaged now, and its wonderful to see them getting ready to start that part of their lives. For me, I can't imagine being married anytime within the next...five or six years, let alone now. I mean, I could (and probably will) change my mind about that in the near future, but for now 22 just seems...awkward. It's time to leave college, find a job, and do other worldly/adult things like go to the bank by myself and do laundry more than once every three weeks.

In the mean time, though, I still feel like an awkward 14 year old most of the time. Not sure if I'll ever grow out of that. However, I had a lovely birthday, and I'm so glad I have such wonderful people in my life to thank for that. Look, I got a miniature cake and cupcakes this weekend, so I pretty much feel like I won the sweets lottery at this point.

So now I'm off to have a cup of tea and read before bed...like an adult. Because 22 is soooo old.

I Feel So Hi-Tech Right Now

Im currently typing from my kindle fire right now! Its an early birthday present and a wonderful surprise! I'm still trying to figure out how everything works but I managed to stumble onto blotter so that's a small victory! I promise a proper blog post soon but for now I couldn't resist the urge to blog from this thing!

Friends and Scones

Yesterday my best friend and I made scones from scratch. I have a recipe for "Boxing Day scones" that I love to make when its cold out. A little jam, clotted cream, and a cup of tea complete my favorite winter snack.

God, I think I need to make some more tonight. Its freezing here (40 degrees in Florida! Why?!) and I will most definitely be having a cup of tea tonight. I may add cranberries to half of the batch.

Katie being a scone model. She also does film, print, and theatre. Nice smizing (Tyra would be proud)!

We even had it at traditional tea time! We felt very posh. Later in the evening we went out for trivia night at Mellow Mushroom with friends, and I think our team did a pretty great job for our first attempt! A pretty lovely night had by all, despite freezing half to death. Luckily, Katie and I discovered the awesome power of car seat warmers last night.

A Slapdash Mosaic Monday

I must apologize to the three or so people who read my blog. The past week or so have been endlessly wonderful, but have left little room for important things like blogging...and writing my senior thesis.

And today my wonderful friend Katie is coming to stay for a few days (yeah!), so I won't be back to normal blogging for a bit because we will be busy eating scones and watching Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (and maybe Downton Abbey AKA my lifeblood at the moment).

I thought I'd do a proper New Year's post with resolutions and what not, but I never make resolutions. I just...can't. I forget what they are within a week, even if I write them down. I mean, I do have a list of things I try to work toward (towards? really must look that up again) every day, but that's more of a "be a decent human being" list than anything else and I try to keep it up year round instead of just the first week of January!

So instead, how about I ring in the new year with a collage of my cat? Because who doesn't love a giant, grumpy cat partaking in Christmas cheer?

For some reason, Big Boy (perfect name for an 18lb Maine Coon, let's be real), the Boo Radley of our household, decided he loves Christmas so much he can't stand it. He got right into all the ribbons and wrappings and didn't move until present time was over. Bless.
